okay so for my computer (PCV-RS402) to read the memory stick it is asking me to format it.. and since my mem stick is 8gb.. it dosnt allow me (don't go up to 8gb, 4gb is max)

Up until mid-2007 no-one expected memory sticks to exceed 4GB and so a maximum of 4GB was recognised on all computers.
You may find an updated driver which will allow more than 4GB to be recognised but I can only find one for XP and that is for Vaio Notebooks - Memory Stick Driver Ver 2.0.0.16 for the SZ3 series Vaios here: -

I doubt that this will work for your RS and you may have to limit yourself to 4GB or search for a suitable driver - or use an external card reader.
