FS195XP Buzzing Screen - Just Got Mine Back From Repair Centre!!!

Hi guys, I purchased a FS195XP about 3 weeks ago, yes I had the buzzing screen problem too:smileysad: So, after about 2 weeks of trying to get used to that buzzing noise, I decided to call Sony and ask them about this widespread problem. I spoke to a polite guy about the problem and was asked to update the bios and graphics driver, which I had already done a few days before. So, he went away for a few secs, came back & said they would pick it up the next day, and the next morning DHL picked it up, great I thought, I did not need to hassle them or nothing! Wonderful:smileycool:

Anyway, today (5 days after they picked it up) I recieved it back, much to the amazement of the DHL man, who said they must be getting better at this:smileylaugh: Great!!! I was told 10-15 days, so I was obviously very pleased to get it back so soon! Anyway, I unpacked it & checked there were no marks etc etc... All looked as it should. According to the paper work in the box & on their site, they have replaced the LCD. There was a slight mark on the bezel when I bought it, that was now gone, and also 2 dead pixels which were gone aswell. Excellent!!! I now have a screen with no dead pixels:smileycool: Everything was going so well then... you guessed it... I try turning down the brightness from full & the F**king buzzing is still there... BO**OCKS!!! I don't believe it!!!:smileycry: Exactly the same buzzing problem!

So, although I now have no dead pixels, I still have that buzzing noise!:smileysad: It seems Sony have no idea how to fix this problem or what's causing it either! I give up trying to solve this buzzing problem, I will try to get used to it & if I can't I will just sell the thing! I really can't be bothered calling Sony again and messing around anymore, I doubt it will get me anywhere either. I am really disappointed with Sony's notebooks. Two years ago I had to get a refund on a GRT815M because the thing kept freezing, a while after that I thought I would try a Sony again and bought a K series, again sent it back because it felt like it was going to fall apart. Did I learn my lesson? NO! A few weeks back I bought a S3HP, yep you guessed it, it went back and I got a refund. The fan noise on this thing is as loud as my desktop, and this is LOUD! Not to mention it getting too hot to have on my lap, I thought that's what they are for? Hence the word "laptop", silly me:smileyconfused: And then 3 weeks back I fell for the good looks of Sony's FS series, and you already know the story with this one!

Is it just me, or are Sony no good at making notebooks? Or maybe I am just not meant to have one? It's weird, I have many sony products that are great, no problem. Yet, I be damned if I can find a Sony notebook that works or does not have problems! I thought Sony were a quality brand, that does not seem to apply to there notebooks as far as I can see though. I know other brands have problems aswell but, I just can't believe my luck with Sony notebooks, I can't seem to win!

Anyway, I am seriously thinking of sticking with desktops in the future, I have some crap brand desktop that works flawlessly, no problems at all after over 3 years of use. I guess the saying "you get what you paid for" don't always apply!

Cheers!

Latest is Sony head office is dealing with this issue & the analysts have been told to hold off arranging any collections for now. They still think the problem can be solved with a bios update possibly & they will let me know when there's any news.

I've been talking to someone who also has the FS195XP but has no buzzing problem with his, he's using an older bios version than mine :smileythinking: Some people have this problem while others don't, I just don't get it!

no the inverters are just cheep like all the other bits they stick inside these vaios,
the inverter works like a dimmer switch when you turn it down it will buzz because it limits the the amount of current through, but if you buy a more expensive dimmer the noise goes, this is the same principle for the inverter, sony really need to face up to the fact that the build quality is getting bad and need to sort it out because people will just go elsewhere,

Why are Sony talking about bios updates? Surely they must know what the problem is by now? My vaio is sitting here collecting dust at the moment, I spend £1,200 for something just to look at:smileyd_oh:

Would someone else be able to fix this problem for me? any ideas who & how much it would cost? I don't see why I should pay to fix this but I would like this fixed sometime this decade!:smileyrolling_eyes:

I believe they're trying to drag this out past the warranty period, then they'll "magically" come up with a fix, which would naturally be chargeable.

If that was the case (prolonging the fix) you would have a very strong case for a lawsuit.

But proving it might be a bit hard.
