I would like to record radio without the background sounds picked up by the microphone. How do I record not using the microphone?

What model Vaio do you have and what Operating System?

Unfortunately this is not possible on Vaios since Vista was introduced.  The Windows audio function "Stereo Mix" is disabled by Sony - presumably as an anti piracy measure - and there is no fix that I know of.

This has been a long standing annoyance.

Someone somewhere must have a way round this
