Multi-region DVD on FS115B?

I tried playing a region 1 DVD disc on my Vaio FS115B and it won't play it. I got myself the DVD Region Free software, installed it and it still won't work.

Any ideas?

tried to download VLC but the mirror sites won't allow me to connect anymore. they also had a warning on their site that VideoLAN might be disappearing due to patent legislation.
