Hi after suffering total loss of laptop ie no power laptop sent back to Sony under warranty I was told all it needed was a HARD RESET how do i do this in future where is the the button to reset also told it was because i installed extra memory taking it over 512 limit something about a power surge due to extra memory i read on VAIO site PCG-K215M can handle 1012 meg I used specific for the model 512 meg and original 256 would this have caused the problem?
Thank you
John
The Hard Reset button is a small pin-hole sized recess on the underside of you notebook.
As far as memory is concerned your PCG K215M has 2 banks of 1 and has a max. capacity of 1024 MB. This means that you should be able to add 512MB along side the existing 256MB. Who is the manufacturer/supplier of the additional memory?
Thanks for reply
Unigen 512MB 200p PC2100 DDR266 SODIMM
Compatible with Sony VAIO PCG-GRT309Z, K33P, K37, K64, K166P, K215M, V505BC2, V505D (CTO), V505DC12, V505DC2PB, V505EC29, V505E (CP1 - CP29).
Memory used for 4 months with no problems suddenly after normal shut down laptop was lifeless next morning
Sorry to be pain but cannot see reset button Would it be under windows product key sticker?
Look at you manual (it's a PDF file, which you have on your VAIO, or download it from VAIO-Link)
there you can find the correct possition.
What are the specs of the 256MB RAM?
Use Everest Home Edition -Free to get the full specs if you dont know.

Took me ages to find that button too...
Infinion RAM! That is interesting. Where is the expensive SonyRAM which you could buy.
Samsung in the FR-series
Infinion in the K-series
Kingston in the W1
hahahaha, Sorry Sony, I think my next Computer which I buy, maybe in some 2-3 years isn't a VAIO.
But you have now the chance to change my opinion about you.:smileywink:
(ops, out of topic)
It amazes me what RAM they use.
