Pioneer DVR-K14 Trouble

First hello to you all, this is my first post as I registered today:smileyhappy:

Ok well I'm having trouble reading DVD-R's and CD-R's from this drive which is installed in my PCG-315s Vaio.
The Drive seems to read normal DVD's and CD's without trouble, yet when i insert a copy into the drive it flashes for about 10-15 seconds and the times out.
The Discs have been checked in my Samsung Drive on my deskto pand work fine, so they dont seem to be the problem.
I've found a couple of posts here with people having identical issues, but no resolution was found.
Am waiting on e-support for an answer, have heard nothing yet.

Any ideas, or is it just tough luck ?

Cheers, and thanks for any help

Still waiting on a response from the e-support. I'm guessing its a hardware issue with the Drive unless anyone here knows otherwise. I do have an extended warranty luckily so I guess that was money well spent as it turns out.
Surprised to see so many problems with vaio's on this forum, I had sony down as a solid brand.
Why is it they use third party hardware, i.e Pioneer Drives, I thought they made their own ?
Ah well, off to pester their e-support again

Hi Padds and welcome to ClubVAIO.

Unfortunately, I think you are right - sounds like a hardware problem as it works OK for some media and not for -R discs.

Hope you get it sorted by e-support.

Hi Padds,

Welcome to Club Vaio,

I agree there are a lot of problems posted on this forum as usually most members are looking for a solution and therefore do not come here and post positive comments...

Thanks for the welcome  btw. Yes thats true, most people post about problems and to be fair theres been no other issues with the laptop, have had it nearly 2 years now and only recently discovered this issue. Sony is a good brand I know, thats why i went with the vaio.
Its a shame they dont use their own drives in their laptops instead of 3rd party ones, I'm sure they had a good reason.

Thanks for the response though, I'm sure I'll get it sorted
