Hellow,
I just bought a new SONY Vaio VGN-FE31M. After working with Windows Media Center I desided to install Windows XP Professional.
After a lot of problems with the drivers, I managed to get everything running. The only problem here is the camara. After installing the drivers and application program, my computer won't shut down. I shut the computer down as usual. All the settings are being saved, then you get the screen with the text 'Windows is shutting down' ... and then it simply stops! So I have to push the power button to shut down the computer.
Anybody got the same problem?
I also tried to extract the software of one of the recovery discs. Because I would like to use the DVD-making utility. But no luck there. I searched the forum and found lots of threads, but none were helpfull.
Can somebody please help me?!

Hi ApolloS and welcome to Club Vaio.
There is a Microsoft Hotfix KB909667 for this problem.
Download the hotfix from Sony Downloads USA FE31 and follow the instructions. This should work but it may only work for English versions of XP. If you are using another version of XP have a look on the Microsoft site for KB909667 for other workarounds.

What about retrieving the applications from the application recovery disc? Is there a solution?

Hi,
Sorry but there is no easy way to retrieve your original Sony applications.
It is possible, however, if your Recovery Disc 2 has files in the format "*.pac" and you can find a guide to recovering your programs in this thread by philfree:
