S3XP displays Pentium M Clock Speed sometimes wrong

Hi everybody,

since a couple of days I am the proud owner of the S3XP Laptop. Sometimes when I adjust the power profile - speed or power saving for example - the clock speed of my pentium m 2 GHz processor is displayed not in the correct way under workplace, properties. It should display 2 GHz when I choose power mode. But it displays only 768MHz, sometimes even 338MHz. It drives me crazy. So I have to restart the computer, sometimes several times until I get the correct clock speed.

Any help?

Hi

Congrats on buying a pentium M, the next step up from pentium 4. This processor has performance equal to or greater than pentium 4 while consuming less power and generating less heat.

This processor has enhanced Speedstep so it will change its frequency and its voltage dependent on workload. Now this processor has a 1MB L2 cache, a high speed bus and a short internal pipeline and so it performs faster than its raw clock speed indicates.

I suggest downloading Mobilemeter here . This should show your processors frequency as it changes. It will also show you the very low temperatures this processor runs at.

In power options - set Vaio Optimized, it should show adaptive under CPU control.

Hope this clarifies what your processor is doing. Better than my Pentuim 4:smileycool:

hi i was looking at your comments on the s3xp, i own a x3hp and it heats up hot at the bottom, also when i play a music cd through media player i change the visulisation to full screen and the music sound skips for a second, i have spoke to a few people on here and they experence the same problems,

What sort of temperatures does the processor reach when it starts having problems?

any temperature it dont matter even if i just turned it on, the music skips on media player when i change the visulisation to full screen, maybe it could be a driver problem on the graphics card?

Hi everybody,

definitely my s3xp has no problems in getting too hot or too noisy. It works like a charm even with Vaio Power Scheme turned off and when running with 2GHz.

Thank you very much for providing the link to "MOBILEMETER".
Everybody should try it!
