Sleep function no longer working properly

The sleep function on my Vaio standalone [Windows 7], no longer works properly. It goes into sleep mode for about five seconds, and then springs back into life, showing the desk-top screen.

Any ideas please?

Hi lothringer15,

First check that that wifi (in Device Manager > Network adaptors > properties – power management tab) is not set to allow the device to wake the computer.

Have you enabled Media Sharing under Network and Sharing Center? If so try the following:

Open Vaio Control Center Advanced > Change plan settings > Change Advanced Power Settings > Expand ‘Multimedia Settings’ > Expand ‘When sharing media’ > For both ‘on battery’ and ‘plugged in’ select ‘Allow the computer to sleep’ – you may find that this is presently set to ‘Allow computer to enter away mode’.

If that is not the problem then examine Scheduled tasks (Device Manager > Administrative Tools > Task Scheduler > expand Task Scheduler Library and all subdirectories) for any program that is allowed to wake the computer to run a task – you will find this option on the ‘Conditions’ tab for each instance.

Hi Rich,

Just returned from India, and guess what? The sleep mode is working again.

I'll keep your comments on file in case the problem returns. If so, I'll let you know if they worked.

Hi Lot15,

Maybe just a glitch then...

If the problem returns and the original suggestions fail to resolve it then please post back.

Does the BIOS have power options for 'Suspend' Mode or State? If so try setting to to 'S3'.
