After having had my V2S returned to SONY twice for replacement TV-Tuners it has failed again - now out of warranty and extended warranty on replaced parts (additional 4 months I think).
I only use the composite inputs to watch my top quality ASDA freeview box - £27 and never skipped a beat !
The usual symptoms of "Tuner not connected" started appearing about a week ago.
Sometimes it starts working again - then stops. Sometimes the Sony Mpeg Encoder is detected, sometimes not. Sometimes it will let you re-install the drivers, sometimes not.
I cannot bear another fruitless cycle of backups, system restores, software re-installs, etc.
Decided to get an external USB2 freeview box and install MCE.
Comments or recommendations welcome !
I know how you feel!
I have the same problem and I would like to install the driver but I have no idea what kind of driver this is. Could you tell me the name of the driver, please?
You can find the driver for the TV-Tuner card in:-
c:\drivers\MPEGencoder
I also found that running c:\utils\utils.exe helped bring it back to life (sometimes) - this won't erase any data !
Hope that helps.
Now using a Hauppauge WinTV external USB2 freeview tuner.
Not great - very slow to change channels for instance - but reliable at least.
My Dual MiniTV usb tuner stick for my laptop reponds quicker than the Hauppauge.....
I have just started getting the same problem myself. Tuner not connected. Sony may be coming to collect next week to repair. Is this a common problem on the V2S?
I could not say whether it is a common problem for sure, but it was certainly a recurring one for me.
Do a search on the forums to see how often this crops up with the V2S and other models.
Hopefully your system will be fine after repair !
