This seems to be normal, I have the same thing - it goes from 54Mbit to 36Mbit - it depends on a lot of things. I find good weather makes a better signal.

thanks for your reply but what is bugging me is that my partner's fujitsu laptop has got the same card as mine but always on 54mbps,occasional drops.i used to use another router but that never happened till i had the brilliant idea of trying to improve things by buying a new router.also i have redone the room that the router is by adding furniture can that affect it? any personal advice on netgear and safecom products?

Furniture isn't a problem.

I have a Belkin card and I set it to 54mbit and it works fine. I just wonder if it's a card thing rather than a router thing

I also use a Belkin so can't offer much help. Does your router allow for turbo connection? If so shift your settings to that. How far away is the router from your PC? Sometimes moving it closer can help.

well, this is what i was thinking main reason why i posted this on the forum.i really don't know how to set my card to use the 54mbps.

Hi amj.designs

There is an update for the wireless available here but I don't think this will help your signal strength..

What model wireless router and card do your have..?
