hi,i have been using my router with the sony vaio fj1s/w and i have noticed that the transfer rate between the router and the wireless LAN is always between 36mbps and 48mbps but never the 54mbps.i have contacted the manufacturer of the router not a big difference.i have swapped routers and laptops but still the same.i changed security keys from wep-wap to wap-psk no difference.to add this started when i changed isp, from virgin to talktalk.can someone help please?
This seems to be normal, I have the same thing - it goes from 54Mbit to 36Mbit - it depends on a lot of things. I find good weather makes a better signal.

also i wonder if this is normal when its affecting my internet activities?as i keep getting internet diagnose .i cannot get to use internet explorer.
Furniture isn't a problem.
I have a Belkin card and I set it to 54mbit and it works fine. I just wonder if it's a card thing rather than a router thing
I also use a Belkin so can't offer much help. Does your router allow for turbo connection? If so shift your settings to that. How far away is the router from your PC? Sometimes moving it closer can help.

Hi amj.designs,
Check the manufactures website and see if there is an update as occasionally this can help..:smileyconfused:

Hi amj.designs
There is an update for the wireless available here but I don't think this will help your signal strength..
What model wireless router and card do your have..?
