Check to make sure your processor fan is running. 85C is high.

That seems high to me. Have you looked at the processor fan to see if it is running. Also check the max design temperature for your processor at Intels website - I'm sure the information is available there somewhere.

You need to clean all your fans, and replace those who are not working as well.
Please be careful running a system at this heat, you could cause some damage.

hi all, thany for your friendly replys

i cleaned now my vaio from the dust, checked the funktion of the power- and cpu-fan (running the power-suppy out of the case i had realy respect from this thing) and can say that all is functioning how it must.

the message about the non functioning power-fan was a non-plugged cable.

nevertheless the cpu is now still running on 80,5°C (sisoft-sandra and other tools).
it's a AMD Athlon XP 2200+ whose Max Die Temperature is indicated by amd with 85°C. can say that these temperature is no prob to reach for my pc :smileysad:(( maybe caused by the verry illogically architecture from the vaio... power and cpu-fan are build in in opposite ways, distance about 2cm!

maybe i should think about a new cpu-fan & a new board (got the asus a7n266vx... nowbody knows him)

thank ya all, greets
renato

I would probably look at changing the heatsink and fan on the processor. Your local computer shop should be able to help you with this.
