I bought a new wireless router yesterday, all other gadgets connect to it no problem but not laptop. It is running windows 7. I have checked that the router is speaking to the computer (pinged it) and that bit seems fine, just no Internet connection. I know there must be some simple bit I'm missing but as a new to computers person I need some help. Please feel free to dumb it down and explain what I need to do. Step by step. Thanks.
Not entirely sure what you mean by that, I am total incompetent - where do I find it? so far when I go into the network and sharing centre it shows my computer, the router, then no Internet connection.
Thanks for reply. All my other devices, iPod, iPad, android mobile can access the Internet through the new wireless router. The modem/router seems to be working fine. My laptop as I say recognises the new router but does not show any Internet access. I have not changed any other settings since (attempting) connecting the new router. It was working fine before I tried this new router. The router and the network connection on laptop share the same name, so again I'm lost as to what to do next.
Is this router set as a DHCP server as well? I'm not sure if your ISP would permit multiple devices to access a single broadband connection. Try to disable it (Bridge mode will be activated).
One thing that you can try also is call the support of your wireless router andhave them check on this. There must be something that you need to confgure in relation to NAT.
Good luck.

I am aware that the question has already been raised on this forum as to whether you have any knowledge of Sony Vaios. I would also question whether you have any knowledge at all of computers in general.
Rich
Have you managed to access your network, as in where it says "local only connection"?

Ok well from what your saying it sounds as though the laptop is connecting to the router and is connected to your network, so your laptop seems to be working ok and doing its job What else do you have connected to the router? Can you connect to the internet using these other devices?
Its possible that its more down the line of the router rather than the laptop.
