Hi
Have a Sony RZ221 desktop, has all usual sony software, DV Motion, Giga Pocket etc
want to import some old VHS tapes onto PC and burn a DVD
VHS machine has SCART o/p
Sony has S-video, and red, white, yellow video import
What is best way to go and which Sony software should I use
thanks
Ian
Hi,
There are lots of ways to do this but the simplest would be to get a SCART TO 3 RCA cable to connect your VHS to the R/W/Y RCA sockets and use Click to DVD to burn your DVD while you are transferring it.
My route is Giga Pocket then edit it, then onto DVD using Nero
Many thanks
Is there a quality issue here, which is best
scart to RCA OR
scart to S-video
thanks again
Hi Ian - you are getting complicated now!
If the Scart on your VCR outputs a true s-video signal then you may get a small increase in quality. The problem is that very few Scart sockets do output a true s-video signal. Does your VCR have 2 scart sockets?
You will have to look at the documentation for your VCR but if it only has one socket it will almost certainly not be s-video enabled and you will get better compatibility and no worse quality through the yellow composite video output.
It has two scarts -
one labled Audio/Video Line IN 1 / OUT
the other Satellite
Searched for manuals on-line and via Toshiba - but they do not even list any VCR products !
Went to Currys and they sold me a cable BUT I failed to notice it is RCA to SCART not SCART to RCA and it came in one of those sealed boxes plastic boxes so I'll be in for a fight.
grrrrr
thanks
Can't help with the Scart Sockets but I doubt if they have s-video OUT.
Most Scarts like your Satelite one will probably accept s-video IN for better quality recording but the usual standard is then RGB OUT to your TV. Doubt if your VAIO takes RGB IN. You are probably better off with the RCA lead.
You can get RCA to SCART cables with a switch on the Scart plug so you can switch it for IN and OUT.
Good Luck with Currys !!
Currys gave a refund - as they gave bad advice !
Bounght a (bi-directional) SCART to S-video & 3 phone adaptor from Maplin
All works - and for the record my TOSHIBA V-254B scart o/p supports S-Video !!!
However I see no way in Click to DVD Version 1.4.04.07210 to go straight from VHS input to burning DVD in one process.
thanks
I don't know Version 1.4 - perhaps someone else can help.
I have Version 2.4. All I have to do is select the Analogue input, insert a DVD, tell it the tape length, start the tape and click on "Create DVD".
That's why I said use Gigapocket before going through Click2DVD
