Video Card Problem

I have a Vaio SZ5XWN/C and have lost the ability to use the full screen and display on an external monitor.

The display is shown as a Generic non p-n-p monitor on standard vga graphics adapter. Max resoloution is 1024*768 although my screen is 1280*800.  Ihave tried downloading the NVIDIA driver from NVIDIA but no joy.
I have tried checking with Driver Detective which says the video driver is OK.  Not sure what to try next.

Hi pcsmith,

The driver from NVIDIA will not install on a Vaio without a modified .inf file.

Try installing either the original driver or the Update version 7.15.10.9754, both of which can be downloaded from support.

http://support.vaio.sony.eu/computing/vaio/downloads/updates/index.aspx?l=en_GB&m=VGN-SZ5XWN_C

Alternatively you may be able to reinstall the original driver via Vaio Recovery Center – Reinstall Programs or Drivers option.
