I noticed on my new laptop that i have a defective pixel shows red on a black background, is there a number of acceptable defective pixels before it can be sent back to where i purchased it from?

Yes, it's something like 20 for Sony.
You'd have to check with VAIO-Link on their policy.

I have a dead pixel - is constantly red. Sony won't help I'm afraid, you need >4 for them to sit up and listen...
