Who would buy a Sony laptop again?

well answers please? and why?

For me no because i do not trust their quality checks, i think they try and rush out the latest fashion craze and then get on with designing the next.

Their driver downloads/documentation are dismal to say the least

Once you find your way into the Vaio-Link telephone queue - never hang up - just keep waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting.

They do get to you eventually - I know - I've phoned them a lot of times.

It's better if you do it on someone elses phone, I did it at work.

You should put it on speaker phone and just do other stuff untill you hear "hello", but don't say stuff you don't want them to hear LOL.

No more sony. after my laptop expirience i will not buy sony again. its the way they tread their customers. its the "we have the coolest stuff around (they have not, thats apple), pay what ever we want and dont dare to complain if its not working like YOU want it, because in our great wisdom WE know what is good for you"
my notebook is ok so far, no quality probs until now, but support is a joke, pricing of accessories is only a big laugh ( i will never forget the usb 1.1 cd writer for 600 ? i was offerd by sony) or that sony told me only special sony memory will fit in my FX, for shure twice the price than kingston ram.

my next notebook will be apple ibm or toshiba, a friend of mine has a toshiba, support is a dream, every driver you want for what ever OS you want....... thats what i expect from a multi billion ? company, and not a shitty webpage who anounces "vaio people" and "vaio style" and "vaio fu** y**" but not drivers and updates. instead of wasting energy on things like sonic stage or what ever click to........ stuff take care of the not working modem drivers, there are tonns of good audio programs out there, they WORK allready fine, no need for an other one, but the bloody modem drives a lot of coustomers mad, how about FIX THAT FIRST befor doing "vaio style"?

I agree with SilverZero totally, the accessories are a rip off, the support sucks (VAIO-Masters end up doing it for them most of the time) and they don't really care if it breaks down. Charming 'eh?

If I had to buy a new laptop it would be a Toshiba, and if I was a rich man (maybe?) I would get a G5 to experience what Macs have to offer.

im exhausted after reading those 6 pages  good info though and an interesting thread.

My NV109M has been alive with me for nearly a year now and i have not had 1 problem that hasent been solved by quick visits to this ingenious little forum. Kee-lo and Rob especially have dealt with all my little probs so well over the year that i would buy sony again just to remain in contact with these great guys. Someone was complaining that there are no sony people hanging around here but to me they are not necessary due to the proficiency of people already here.

I am very intrigued by the customer service comments and with no recovery or inital cd's to my name im sure i will have to call it one day soon.

the NV109 isnt the best in terms of design comapared with other sonys (what the hell have i got it for then  ) with its bulky back end but it was the only laptop on the market with amusingly gimmicky features such as the MD bay and sub woofer units. The woofer is a nice touch i have to say esp when your away from your home speakers. I can burn Cd's and MD's at will and conveniently download pics via the memory stick slot, all my multimedia needs covered.

Funnily enough my lappy came with a dead pixel but as its just 1 i dont see the need to send it all the way to france to fix it.

I dont drool over the big screens, 15" is far big enough esp when playing 1st person games, i get a headache after an half an hour  then i resume making the screen smaller (do i sound like an old whinger?). If i want to watch a DVD 15 16 17 screens it doesnt matter they arent going to be as good as a widescreen TV etc.

Price was also a non issue as i got 800 pounds off the RRP going through ebay.

there we go, a rare thumbs up. I can answer the mysterious Q of why the poll has high yes % even though allthe posts are negative. English people generally are quick to find fault in anything and happy to announce it yet postive things can remain silent. We are a society of whiners and complainers  plain and simple

Hehe thanks a lot  these sorts of comments make visiting this forum worthwile. You see, if I help one person out, it's been worthy of my time, which is good news for everyone. I am so glad that Rob and I have been such good assistance to Club VAIO, and I have a feeling if Rob went we'd not have as good support right here. For what I know helps people but what I don't know Rob knows, confusing 'ey?

I also find it amazing that people will buy Sony again because of this forum, that means a lot to me, and I'm sure I'm talking for other masters too.

I don't like to praise myself (it's pompus) but I don't like to see nice comments like these go away without a thanks and a few words of gratitude.

I'd like to buy a Dell Laptop than Sony. With 2000¬ I can buy a Centrino1.5Ghz, 128Mb Video card  .... But with that money, I can only by a laptop in Sony with Pentium 4 2,66Ghz, 64Mb video card :slight_frown: .... I accept that the style of sony is very nice but the tech support was terrible and the update technical is not very good. In Dell I can find a Geforce FX 5650 with 128Mb but in sony I can't. When will Sony change  .

Yeah I like the way DeLL have better GFX cards.
And their Centrino's are not badly priced too.

I would never buy one again. I used to really trust the sony brand. It signified quality for me. But their quality of service is very low. I must use the recovery cd if I have any problems. And that means losing my whole set up. A change of OS to XP professional from XP home should be trouble free and more so supported by SONY. But No. So I struggle to get my machine back to some sort of semblence of the one they sold me. (my function keys don't work, Drivers are hard to source.) I also got their NetMD audio system thinkning I could listen to mp3s without hassle. But no they have so little faith in their customers and so much fear of copyright theft (they are a record company afterall) that the system means that I can't even put my own, self made music on to disc with out checking it in and out!!! And even for the music I bought and paid for I cant even wipe my minidiscs with out going back to my Notbook. ! I was going to buy a digital camera from sony because of the memory stick feature on both it and my laptop. But I will be buying Cannon!! The Sony brand signifies apathy towards customers for me now.
