why does my VAIO laptop overheat and shut down after 25 minutes?

why does my VAIO laptop overheat and shut down after 25 minutes? It is not even 2 years old yet and at the present moment I cannot afford to lose it as it's vital for my university coursework.

Have you checked the fan is working properly?

A laptop would normally shutdown because of overheat and lots of dust build up on the fan. Check that there is enough ventilation for the hot air to come out. Try to use a laptop cooler to bring the tempratures down. If that doesnt help, send it to sony to get it checked.
