WInDVD BD -upgrade wont load

Hi, I have a newly purchased vaio notebook VGN-AR31S. 2 weeks old_but may have been in shop for a while?
it plays standard dvds ok, but when i tried to play a blu-ray movie it just whirred for a bit to spin the disk then stopped -nothing. repeated clicking on the play arrow but same behaviour.
went to vaio update 3, this showed a windvd update -great i thought. so i downloaded this but when i ran the install it started the install shield then said it could not apply the upgrade to this software!
the date on my windvd software is 2006 so i guess the pc was shipped with quite an old version (8.0 DXVA B08.63)and this upgrade wont accept it. how do i get an updated version of windvd BD please?

Yes, the same is true for this SATA update. It shows on the automatic update list, but it's not.
You need to go to the support -> download section -> drivers/updates, enter your VAIO type and then you find the available updates. If you click on the according one, WinDVD BD or SATA it opens an instruction screen where you can see how to do it and how the update file is named. (use Blencogos link above)

The SATA update file is named: INDSAT-01419102-UN.exe

Just noticed on the AR31S support download pages that the WinDVD BD update is back to version InterVideo WinDVD BD 8.0.8.416_2 dated 21/11/2007
I have already installed the 8.0.8.425 version on my machine?
I'm confused now!

I gave up on WinDVD BD, it's poorly supported and no where as good as PowerDVD. Do yourselves a favour and get PowerDVD, much better.

I don't work for them BTW

SORTED!!!
thanks everyone, whether putting problem with a 'case' with sony tech support helped i will never know. But stone, as you spotted, sony update changed the WinDVD update to a different version number. I downloaded this one, it installed OK , hurrah, AND my disk now plays OK. So it was the update that had stopped the disk playing.

..so that's the way to do it then.
Glad you sorted it out.

Hi

After you have download and installed the InterVideo WinDVD BD Update Patch 8.0.08.416_2 your version of WinDVD BD should be:

Version:
8.0 DXVA B08.416

To check the version number, launch Intervideo WinDVD BD for Vaio, then right click on the WinDVD BD for Vaio application window, from the list select Set-Up.

In the new Set-Up window select the Information Tab.

If you have this version installed then you should now be able to install the Intervideo WinDVD BD 8.0.8.425_3 an Update..

The default location of the WinDVD BD 8.0.8.425_3 Update (ITAOTH-01596002-UN.exe) should, unless you have deleted the file, be found in Computer > Local Disk (C) > Update file

This update will change your Intervideo WinDVD BD for Vaio to:

Version:
8.0 DXVA B08.425

Hi guys, not sure if this has already been answered in the previous posts but it would appear I have the same problem, cant play Blu ray BD-J. I've done the update from the site which is WinDVD BD Update 8.0 - 8.0.9.670_2 and still no joy. I've checked contents of the update file on my my C drive and there's nothing in there.

Anybody able to help a 'non-tech' person here?

Hi and thanks Mark,

I've not been asked for the AACS key; when I put Blu Ray DVD in the drive and the software starts I get a red screen saying that I need to get an update from my software vendor. The error on the screen ref. to BD-J Error Code: 0300.

Like I said, I've done the update on the site and it’s as if it’s made no difference. I too have the version 8.0 DXVA B09.670

If I'm right in what I read here that it's just Sony's inability to provide an update to the movie industries security measures then I for one will be seriously p****ed off. I'm sure we all didn't pay the extra money for Blu-Ray to not have it work properly/at all for any length of time.

I've sent an email today to the support centre but gauging your response I don’t think I'm going to get an answer anytime soon. I'll give them a fair chance to provide an answer then I will start quoting 'sale of goods act’, ‘misrepresentation’ and ‘sale of goods act’ for good measure. I’ll keep my eye on the thread for updates

Hi Pad,

I totally agree with you i've sent many complaints to Sony about their inability to provide me with any help or even updates for THEIR software. I payed extra for the blu-ray for the intention of being able to play it, and i DON'T intend to pay any more to have to watch them as Sony, as they are an 'entertainment' company should provide me with some decent software that is up to date.

Anyway, i hope they correct the very annoying and time wasting situation for me and you, and many others, so we can actually enjoy watching blu-rays without needing an unprovided update.

Mark.
