Creating a playlist on the nw a45 without a pc

I've just started using my new nw a45. I'm trying to create a playlist o  the device but I ca t find out how. Do I really need to be plugged in to a pc to create a playlist? 

If I'm out and about and I want to make up a playlist surely it defeats the object of a portable device if you need to plug it into a pc?

I can't alway anticipating the need to create a new playlist in advance to pre preprepare it before I go out!

I can't think of even one reason. 

I think it's counterproductive in that when you find out it makes you feel cheated and treated as second class by Sony

I was playing with playlists last night and I discoversed you can't add a song to a playlist if that song is on your main device and sd card. You get a warning pop up that it's not possible. So if I have an album on my card and my favourite track in main memery it can't go on a playlist.  I think I'm going to have to abandon main memory and just use the card. 

For an expensive device it's got some odd shortcomings.

No it doesn't. It says how to add  a track to an existing list but not how to create a new list on the device when it's not plugged in to a pc.
