True wireless WF-1000XM3 - bad call quality

I really like my new earbuds, specially regarding sound quality...

But when It comes to call quality its terrible. Ivé tried reset both phone (Huawei P30 Pro) and earbuds, I've tried both with and without NC. I've also tried prioritize connection vs audio in the app.

This is my second pair with the same issue, I even updated the firmware that came this morning.

I tried the buds with my wifes iPhone, but the call quality was still bad.

I really really want these to work, any ideas?

From the sony store itself they checked it with me and they said yes it should be refunds or replace it with other products I chose to get a refund because I bought it for many reason one of them to make a simple phone call that didnt works with sony earbuds not sure why and even if they already know this issue and they will solve it with the incoming updates as they mentioned in the email, still it should be managed properly before they sell it in the market the others brands will keep lughing at this point phone call quality is very very very important without it everything else is no use,

Sennheiser is working perfect and the sound more than what I expected, I will wait for them to update it and maybe I will bought it back if they will make it works better than now.

I’m afraid that nothing will be done.
I don’t see SONY doing anything about it.
These are premium earbuds, they should not be ignored.

And as it was bought in a store with their own return policies, I think I will be stuck with this...

It’s a real shame and throws my confidence in Sony to the ground, they should at least say anything to everyone.

When I called the support with the phones, they couldn’t understand me and asked me to improve the call quality. I laughed of course. and sent me to assistance. But everyone looked at me as a I was a fool. That not the way to go Sony, at all..

and let me say one thing, everyone that bought this phones because of the reviews of the cool guys that get them for free. They forgot to test something so basic. And we went along with their music.

WE SHOULD ALL GO TO THEIR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND THANK THEM. THEY HAVE A THOUSAND EARBUDS. I ONLY CAN BUY ONE, THAT CANNOT MAKE A ****** phone call.

This is so fustrating... Thanks SONY for you BS support, BS products and the marketing strategy with the YouTubers.

AAAHHHHH Sorry guys for the lash out...

I understand your feeling and still there is a hope they will fix it soon I don't think it's an easy thing to fix it but they should the microphone is very strong and not calibrated to get the sound from you it get the sound from everything else far from the main point to send your voice clear to the other person, the rest of the thing is great specially the design battery life and 360 mode , for me I still like it even with this main issue not working well I will keep checking till they fix it  I still want a good earbuds that u can use it not only for listening  for speaking also.

Relax now wait for the fix.

Badly designed. Impossible to use for phone calls. Simply. It’s amplifying surrounding noises both for me and for the one I call. Known bug and Sony does nothing. Music listening is great though. If no fix soon I won’t keep and bye bye sony

Hi Lingerts,

What happens when you make a call? Do you hear an echo or is it just the background noise?

Cheers,
The_Black_Rose

The problem is not on your end. It’s on the other end of the call.

People tell me they hear everything around me perfectly, barking dogs, chieldren, cars, everything. Everything outside they hear 90% and hear 10%.

I haven’t managed to complete a single call without the other guy ask me to disconnect the phones, because it’s too disturbing for them...

I’ve sent the phones to support, they wasted one week, meanwhile the 2.0 firmware came out.

They claim that the phone are only designed for music cancellation, not for calls.

SHAME Sony, that’s the worst excuse for design incompetence.

It’s like buying a Bentley, can’t listen to radio, and say that the Bentley was only designed to drive. Or buy a top of the line iPhone, have a *****ty data connection and say that it was designed only to make calls....

Hello, it’s the most expensive phones that existed a few months ago...

I’m not a blogger, so I’m not given 100 phones for free and I have money only for one pair, if I could return them and exchange for AirPods I would I’m said to say...

Shame SONY, and shame YouTubers...

I actually ordered them and will test how well they perform and also see if any settings affect the performance during calls.

Will report back soon.

Hi,

As far as I know, what's being described here can be explained by the placement of the microphone as the headphones are completely wireless, so the mic can't be enclosed like the usual in-line microphones in normal headphones, so it's in the shell of the earpieces themselves. so it's expected for the quality through the mic to be affected.

This isn't something that can be solved as it's a part of the design. My best advice would be to rely on them in quiet environments.

Win_88 - I wholeheartedly disagree.

I expect a premium product from a company the size and reputation of Sony.

When I pay for a premium product I expect Premium quality.

The key difference here is that I paid for a wireless "Headset"  -  which has 50% functionality based in the sound it produces and 50% functionality in the sound it records.

I did not pay for a wireless "Earphones"

Hi @Win_88,

I disagree, too.

The Sony Xperia Ear Duo have the microphone placed in a similar spot and with them call quality is perfect.

P.S.: For anyone wondering - no, my WF-1000Xm3 have not yet arrived. Here in Germany there is one holiday after the other, so either my payment hasn't yet been processed or the parcel hasn't been dispatched yet. 😞
