As per subject. My Huawei usb c supercharger won't charge tr se headphones. Charging light comes on for a short while then goes off.
Does anyone else have the same problem? Am guessing my headphones don't have a fault but worth checking.
Hi Bigmick,
Welcome to the community.
There is a known issue when charging with some third party USB cables because of their internal specifications. You'll find some more info about this here.
Hope this helps,
Ed
Hi Ed
I'm trying with the supplied USB cable and it doesn't work. Change the charger and it works, it's just I'd prefer to use the Huawei one as we have two Huawei phones so would have to have a special charger setup for the headphones
Hi @Bigmick777
Are you saying that the included cable doesn't work at all? or does it not work with the Huawei charger specifically? Does the cable work for charging when connected to a PC or a Laptop?

Hi
The cable works but not on my Huawei charger so it's the charging block. I can use another charger but means having a charger specially for the headphones. Not a major issue but just curious why I can't use my Huawei charger.
Has to be something proprietary in the charger.
Hi,
As per the link @EdwinaU posted above, Sony doesn't really restrict the charger you can use based on brand. It's just simple power requirements. I wouldn't venture away from what's mentioned in that article to avoid causing any damage which I'd imagine would void the warranty in the process.

Hi. The link above mentions only using the Sony USB cable but no mention of any restrictions with the power block, hence my query. I'm using the provided USB cable but doesn't work with my Huawei power block. I'll just have to have a dedicated, alternative charger for the headphones.
Hi Bigmick,
As far as I know, the maximum power output that your adaptor should be giving you is 1.5A (5V) for it to be safe to use. Although Sony will most definitely always exclusively recommend using the included cable for charging.
Remember that we are talking about a third party adaptor here (Huawei), so there could be factors that we don't know about.

Thanks for this thread. I had the same problem where the red light turned off almost immediately. Swapped the adapter to a Samsung one and now the light is at least staying on. A first step in the right direction.
* SOLUTION * WH-1000XM3 doesn't like "talking" to this specific charger. Using a "power only cable" without the data lines makes it charge just fine.
I have been having the same issue, and did some test using test equipment.
At first i thought it was the higher native voltage on the Huawei supercharger (HW-050450E00), but it turned out to be false, as the headset still charged at 5.5V from my power supply. I tried an apple charger, and another Huawei supercharger (HW-059200EHQ), and they both worked. This led me to believe that the communication protocol between the headset and the charger was not compatible. In fact, after doing some testing, the headset started charging on the huawei supercharger when i disconnected the two data-lines in the cable. (Using a power-only USB cable, without data-lines).
Long story short:
- The communication between the HW-050450E00 fast charger and the WH-1000XM3 fails.
- It is the headset who refuses to charge after talking to the charger. The charger still supply's 5V.
- If you remove the data lines between them, the headset will charge. (Power-only-cable)
- Other Huawei fast chargers may work.
