I'm currently trying to update my Xperia X8 to 2.1. I've triple-checked that it is available for update (SI 1242-4363) and it is. I've downloaded PC Companion and i reach Step 2 - Prepare however i get stuck.

When it asks to turn the phone off, leave for 5 seconds, then hold the back key and connect the USB, all that happens is i get a charging symbol on the phone, and the companion asks me to drag the bar down and mount the USB when i clearly can't. Here's a picture which shows where i get stuck and the ONLY THING my phone shows is a charging symbol.

did u keep the back button pressed while connecting the phone cable to phone?

Obviously.

My confusion is it doesn't state for how long you hold the back button for. Everytime i try it, the charging symbol just comes up.

Hi, are you still having problems updating your phone to 2.1 using PC Companion? If you are I would suggest you use a separate program you can download from our website called the update service and upgrade that way. The link is below:

When your are connecting the cable, make sure the phone is off and you are holding down the back button before you connect the cable, continue to hold it down while you connect the cable and hold it still until the program on the PC moves to the next step. It should not take any longer than a few seconds.
