Phone randomly restarts when mounted

When mounted to my PC, my X8 shuts down and restarts frequently and randomly. After it restarts I have to re-enter my PIN number and the phone has un-mounted from the PC, so I have to start all over. Naturally this makes any sort of file transfer very unreliable and difficult. When the phone is just connected to the PC for recharging, I don't have this problem. I am running Android 2.1

Having received no better advice, I formated the memory card (after taking a backup copy of everything I did not want to lose) and that seems to have removed the problem.

mount the handset in silent mode ..........turn on the silent mode and then connect the handset to pc

So not only does it keep on randomly restarting when mounted (I connected it in silent mode this last time and it's been several minutes without restarting, which is a bonus), my phone will now randomly start playing Fields of Gold by Sting for no good reason. It won't ackowledge that it's doing it either, so I have to randomly push buttons, hoping it will stop.

What the @£££€¤%# is up with this @£€#¤$£@ing phone?

Ah,mine did that this morning (not sting though,although it is a good track).It may be the SD card notification sound.I disabled it earlier.Thought my phone was ringin`.

Mine's doing the same too. I'm just curious to know if I can actually save contact information before I can format my memory card. I know for sure that pictures and media files can be saved but not really sure abt the other information like contacts and text messages etc. I don't wanna lose them
