.. As does rear camera, flash etc so will be a simple job to replace for £22.99.

Hi @Andyben, very sorry to hear about what has happened.

However I'm thankful that you shared this with us since this is a good example on how a tempered glass screen protector can be very useful to have on your phone, both on the front and back.

I hope everything worked out with the repair!

I don't think tempered glass needed for back just use for the front is ok, but you better to use plastic film protector for the back side, that's what i do and it adds more safety to phone from scratches 👍

I'd argue otherwise.

I may be wrong and am no engineer but The tempered glass shatters and as it does it dissipates the energy from the impact, providing more protection to the phone. Like a crumple zone in a car.

This happened on my iPhone 7plus earlier in the year.

My XZP has a film on the back and when it dropped the energy from the impact simply travelled through the phone and smashed the rear glass, although the film has kept it all in one place.

Everyone has their own preferences....i just got my ZX Premium a few days back, had pre ordered simple non glass front screen protector & a good quality case that covers the back, have since managed to eventually find TPU protector for the back from Amazon....& have ordered a better full coverage 'book' style leather case, the reason i will fit a TPU protector to the back is that as i found on my Z2 which also had a glass back, that a simple bit of dust/grit can easily get between the hard back case & the glass & will over time scratch the glass, better to be safe than sorry. Also i've heard of a few of the 'glass' front ones just not fitting properly at all, leaving gaps at the top/bottom & sides......perhaps others could pass on their experiences with ones fitted/quality of fitment etc ect :smileysmileythumbsup:

the screen protector gaps on the borders of the screen can be easily fixed or at least reduced https://youtu.be/ylDLfPxl_xU

Replacement OEM rear glass arrived today.

20mins to remove old shattered one, strip NFC chip and thoroughly clean phone, then two minutes to apply adhesive strips and new glass.

Perfect.

No rattles, or movement.

Pity the plastic mid chassis is chipped in places but otherwise like new

I use Nillkin ScreenGuard for the back but naked on the front...

Yes definitely, I have tempered glass screen protector on front & back because Gorilla Glass 5 isn't shattered proof unless it's a sapphire crystal display. The quality & level of protection depends on price, with more expensive tempered glass 9H grade hardness is best at the moment. I made the mistake of buying cheaper screen protectors that allowed dust to get under & more prone to scratches, it is worth the price to have some protection since most glass panels on smartphones these day will most likely not survive a 5 feet drop unscathed.

sapphire display might be very scratch-resistant, but from what I've read it's very brittle too, so definitely not shatter-proof.
