Mute Whatsapp Notifications

Hi guys I really need your help here!

Before buying Z5 premium dual, I had been using Z.

In Z, I was able to have Whatsapp messages appear in the notification bar WITHOUT any sound. That allows me to see the messages without triggering the blue ticks.

Now in Z5p, I am not able to do the same. From the settings available, I only have two choices:

1. Whenever there's a whatsapp message, it pops up at the top of the screen WITH sound, then it remain in the notification bar.

2. By choosing to block it, nothing will ever pop up, there is no sound, and there will be nothing at all in the notification bar.

What I want is "showing up in the notification bar" + "NO sound", is it possible to do this?

I have read some forum posts in which people suggested to turn to silent mode. But in this case I won't be able to hear phone calls so it's not feasible.

Please help! It really feels so annoying when this can be achieved in older models (and iPhone) but not available in the newest model!

[Just to clarify, this is NOT about the sound effect when receiving and sending out whatsapp messages (which can be easily dealt with in whatsapp settings). It's about the notification problem when I'm using the phone generally, not necessarily within whatsapp.]

This can be only changed from apps own settings, not from general Android sound settings.

Sorry but you seem not to understand my issue... It's not about the instant sound of sending out and receiving messages, but the NOTIFICATION whenever a message is received. Such notification pops up with sound. I have flipped every page of setting in Whatsapp, turn off ALL notifications, but to no avail. The whole notification could be turned off in the phone's general settings, but it is either ALL or NOTHING, i.e. Pops up with sound OR does not pop up and no sound at all (in this case I will not know even when there's a message).

Welcome to the community.

@alexdon is right though, the settings to do something like this will only be available in the app. This is a third party app though so Sony has no control over the functionality of it. You will have to contact the developers of Whatsapp for assistance with this. It may be that the functionality you are looking for simply does not exist within the app.

You can turn your phone on silent mode, which will disable all sound yet still allow you to receive notifications, but this of course will disable all sound on your phone.

@SamCheung Same goes with hangouts or facebook messenger as far as I know.
