Hi,

I have the Z1 Compact and am currently on holiday. Have just experienced the same disaster described above. Water in the sim tray. Every flap was securely covered before taking snaps under water in less than a metre!  I checked everything before I went in each time.  Very upset because I took every precaution necessary. Any suggestions for what I might do next? Many thanks.

Sony can say the phone is water proof and I have no doubt that the phones tested pased the IP tests. However, in the real world of manufacturing there is likely to be a significant number of phones that will not be waterproof. Now, if you choose to put your phone in water you are opening up a whole world of possible grief. If the phone gets water in it, Sony are most likely to say that you did not have the ports closed. It is then down to you to somehow prove the unprovable and show the ports were closed!

The alternative would be for Sony to stand by their claims and exchange water damaged phones without question.

What do you think Sony's current policy is?

So my phone gets wet whilst in a case that needs the flaps to be closed 100% to shut. It works for an hour or two then boom it happens like everyone else is saying on here it crashes. But worse that that is works when I have dried it out but has a massive defected screen in the top left. I message sony and they say remove the battery and memory card if that is the fault......do they not know there products? The compact is not able to be taken apart and I have told them it is potential water damage on a supposed water proof phone.
To top it off they tell me to send it to them and if found to be my fault it will cost me £14.90 to get my own property back even though I pay nothing to get it to them. I would not be surprised if I were to do that they will find the fault to be of my own.

Has anyone commenting on here thought of contacting watchdog as if O2 cannot fix it for me I will be going to them as surely a consumer program who have already investigated a sony phone would love to see this issue that many a people have had.

I also have this same, exact problem.  My son checked that all the flaps were shut & sealed, used the phone in a swimming pool for a couple minutes, and a little while later the phone was dead. If so many people are having this problem then maybe it is time to take legal action against Sony.  How can a company claim a phone is waterproof and when you try out this feature within reasonable conditions and with the utmost care, you kill your phone?  Frustrating!

I have the exact problem. Reading on the internet, i'd realized, this is not a 100% waterproof phone. There are too many people with this problem.

I bought the phone, 3 days later, i decided to make a test of this "wonderful waterproof phone", i got into the pool for about 6 minutes, take a several pictures and got out. When i was going to look at the pictures out of the water, the phone turned off.

I tried to turn it on several times but it didnt. Few hours later i decided to plug it on the wall to charge it and immediatly the phone turn on. Now i was happy again.

I started to test everything and it was fine. The next day the microphone and speaker started with problems, and realized that the camera had water inside.

I took it for warranty, and Im still waiting for a response.

My advice for future buyers, is an excellent phone, probably the best right now, the camera is incredible awesome, but DONT... PLEASE DONT PUT IT ON WATER. IT IS NOT A 100% WATERPROOF PHONE.

Hello had the same issue here. I even bought external magnetic charger so that other than inserting a SIM card and microSD card I didn't really ever open the lids on the mobile. I tried to make some underwater pictures in a pool. The phone was max 10-20 cm under water and max 2-4 minutes. When I went out of the pool the phone went blank, I tried to power it up but all I got was a red light and 3 vibrations. I dried the phone completely with the towel on the outside and opened all three lids. There was no water there so the lids are tight, the problem is somewhere else. The phone was sent to Sony service and I fully expect them to fix it under warranty as after reading many similar posts  the phone is clearly not as waterproof as advertised.

Sony must take care with this, and say or do something, because is a very serious problem, and with ascending númber of users affected.

This has just happened to my phone. I'm gutted as I'm going to loose all the photos on my phone. If they don't repair it for free i will threaten them with trading standards because they in breach of sale of goods act it's not waterproof clearly. Main reason I went for this phone. Really pi$$ed off
