Vaio SZ2XP Battery Position

I received my Vaio SZ2XP from Sony yesterday. Everything works fine expect one thing, and that's the battery. The battery just doesn't sit properly into the slot. I have personally measured it, there is actually a 1mm gap between the battery and the slot when it is installed. They are loose such that the moment when I turn it upside down, it will make noise, as the result of the gap.

Is that normal and is it designed like that?

Thanks a lot for your time guys. I really appreciate it.

EDIT : Sry, I didn't search before. Several VAIO models also have this kind of problem. So I guess I just have to be patient with the "clonk" sound.

I have locked the battery and it's made in Japan. So you are saying that the battery "clonking" is not normal?

Thanks.

Hi Oceanboy,

It may be a good idea, if you've the time, to go to a local dealer and compare the battery of the there SZ2XP to yours, at least then you would know for sure if your battery fitting is the same or different...:smileywink:

Hi,

Mine is definitely not clonking, wiggling, rattling or any other descriptive word relating to movement. There is however a 2mm or so gap between the battery and the casing but is obviously by design. Thalamus's idea sounds like a good one. Sorry I can't be more help but it's all pretty new to me.

Yeah, I have contacted Vaio, but hopefully they don't reply in weeks. Hehe.

The easiest way to test it is when I shake my laptop, the battery will "clonk" against the base.

The gap difference in width is between the battery "holders" on the laptop and the battery's "grid/slot". If there is too much gap between these two, then it will clonk. My problem is that the "holders" are 1.9mm in width, while the grid is 2.7mm. So there is lots of free space that cause the battery to move.

Thanks a lot for the reply by the way.

That seems to large in my opinion. You could request a replacement battery, stating that the one supplied is too small to fit properly

Hmm.. so is it the holder's fault or the battery fault? Do anyone else have this problem?

Thanks.

Hi Oceanboy or anyone else who might be able to answer this,

Apologies, this isn't to do with your battery problem.

I've just removed an item of software via Add/Remove programs and I think I missed and have removed the wrong thing!! I intended to remove 'Safegaurd PrivateDisk' but it's still there. I wonder if you could tell me what you have in your programs list immediately after Safeguard PrivateDisk? If it's something important I'll do a system restore back to how it was before this error, if not I won't bother (it is the first thing I've done this morning, I should allow myself to wake up before doing things like this!!).

Anyway, sorry for contaminating your thread with something unrelated, it's just that I know you have more or less the same machine.

Thanks in advance,
Mark

It's ok, I've done a restore and all's back to normal. The program was Setting Utility Series. My panicks over.

Thanks anyway,
Mark

I have exactly the same issue with a rattling battery. I've emailed Sony, maybe they'll bother to reply in week or two.....

I also have this problem. I uninstalled Private Disk but its still there on my laptop. Do i need to uninstall "Setting Utility Series" from the Add/Remove list?

Thanks
