Hi all,
I have just purchased a Sony SVR-HDT500 which replaces a Sharp PVR that has lost channels since the digital switchover in April. The TV I have is a Panasonic TX-32LXD700 which is about 5 years old. When I connected the Sony to the TV and switched it on, "High Definition HDD Recorder" appeared on the TV for a number of seconds as the unit initialised, but instead of then going to the set-up screen there was a brief green flash on the right of the screen, then nothing, just a blank screen. I switched the Sony off and tried again, this time the green flash was across the top of the screen.
I disconnected the Sony but left the HDMI lead connected to the TV and I plugged the other end into my laptop, and got a picture from that.
I have taken the Sony to work and connected it to a new TV there, and found that it worked OK, after the initial screen it went into the setup program. So either there is a fault with my TV or the Sony unit is incompatible with my TV.
Can anyone suggest which scenario would be most likely?
Many thanks for reading this.

Hi LazzaH,
I have the exact same model PVR, it works fine with our old LG set (probably 5 years old too). Our TV has an input choice whether you use PC or Video input, if you choose TV for input when you plug in a laptop you get a green border around everything. I guess that's not quite what's happening to you.
Was your Sharp a HDMI input also?
I was thinking at first it might be some strange HDCP thing, but I wouldn't think it would blank the whole screen.
Anyway, hope we get to the bottom of it :smileyhappy:.
Hi binbash,
Thanks for replying. The Sharp PVR was scart conection. I have emailed the Panasonic helpdesk telling them the story, yet to hear back. I am hoping it might be a fault in the TV, I would rather pay to get that repaired than buy a new TV!
