Xperia M4 stuck in reboot loop, even after a full factory reset. Help!

Over the last couple months I've been having a whole bunch of problems with my Sony Xperia M4. I'm going to try and be as detailed as possible, so I apologise in advance for the length!

It started with the phone randomly restarting itself for no apparent reason, this would tend to happen about once a week although it would sometimes not happen for a few weeks. After restarting the phone would act as normal with no problems until the next restart.

Sometimes I would be forced to restart my phone to fix a problem such as no characters showing after typing (keyboard acting as normal, just no characters appearing in search bar, URL bar, etc.) or video recording only recording audio and a black screen.

Then more recently my WiFi connection started acting odd. WiFi would be on and the status icon on the notification bar would be full (and show the upload arrow) but any attempt at using anything that needed an internet connection would result in being told I had no internet connection. When trying to reconnect, the list of routers would be blank despite the fact that my router and a number of neighbours routers should be showing. Sometimes the list would not be blank but would show routers connected to in the past rather than nearby routers. Either way, I could not connect to anything.

For a little while I could fix this by restarting but the time it took for the the problem to crop up again got shorter and shorter until the phone would boot up with this problem.

Now onto the current problem. I restarted my phone this morning because I couldn't input the unlock pattern (touchscreen was accepting a swipe as individual touches) with the hope that it would restart and allow me to use the touchscreen properly but it just keeps on restarting. Usually it will only go as far as the black screen with SONY XPERIA, the screen will then go black for a second and start over. Sometimes it will go as far as the blue waves but it soon freezes and restarts again.

I have tried the following to fix the problem.

Turn off, remove SD card and turn on. Nothing different happens.

Turn off, remove SIM card and turn on. Nothing different happens.

Turn off, remove both and turn on. Nothing different happens.

Pressing and holding volume down and power button to enter recovery mode. The screen goes black and the phone vibrates almost immediately. All it seems to do is turn the phone off.

Installed the PC Companion exe, connected the phone both with the power off and the power on (in reboot loop). With power off, the phone begins charging. Laptop makes "new USB connection" sound and the PC Companion starts trying to connect but can't detect a phone. With power on, all of the above happens except it starts to connect but stops when the phone reboots.

I managed to reset to factory settings a few hours ago and had a little while with a fully working, fully reset phone but it still decides to go into small reboot loops seemingly at random.

Am I correct in thinking this is a problem with the phone itself rather than conflict with any apps or SD/SIM card problem. This is my second Xperia M4 in six months after my first experienced similar problems.

The only advice I can give is take it to the place you bought it from and hope it's still under warranty. After this happened I took it to my carrier and they "repaired" it (replaced every internal part of the device) but something similar happened again a month or so later. I took it to my carrier again, they "repaired" it again and it's been okay so far. I still get the odd random restart, random freeze and short reboot loop (1-2 extra reboots) but I gave up caring about it a while ago.

I wouldn't recommend contacting Sony themselves. When I did, I just received a copy/paste response about using Xperia Companion to solve it. I explained everything I'd tried (including using Xperia Companion) but was met with silence.

My advice going forward would be to sell or throw away your M4 and get a different phone, perhaps a Samsung or an HTC. I really regret buying it, I've had to get it repaired/replaced three times since owning it. I'm vehemently against buying Sony phones because of it.

@mistergookey

Try this

Remove both SIM and SD cards > Turn off the phone > connect the phone to a wall charger > let it charge until the notification LED turns green > run PCC on your computer > support zone > repair > the phone must remain off all the time > follow the steps > connect the phone (make sure it's off) > see if that works.

Experiencing just this problem with the handset just over a year old, an seeing that i's a very common issue (seeall the similar threads on this site), I did all the avised repair procedures but to no avail. As the set was still under a Sony 2 year "warranty" I retrned it as advised by Sony, to be told that i is "not economically repairable".

They will return it if I pay £20, or replace it if I pay £128! They sent a link to the warranty conditions which doesn't work, but is of no relevance because they have given no description of what the problem is, whether the problem is hardware or software.

Given that Sony must look at this forum and know there is a problem with these handsets this is very sharp practice. If they do not replace the handset at their expense I will be taking to the matter to the UK ombudsman.

To get a different handset from my network provider will break my contract and cost me £110 - for nothing. So I face paying over £100 whatever - come Sony there are lots of M4 Aqua users with these issues - do the right thing!

I got one solution:

1) Press the screen with your thumb and the back panel with index finge, near the nfc logo 2) At the time of starting it helps sometimes.

It is an hardware problem. Seems with the CPU or Motherboard. Reballing needed

For me it helps man by just pressing little harder at NFC tag back side of cell phone. And i have started successfully my cell phone after a month. It seems some hardware processor related issue as it heated too much this time at the same place.

It happens with me when i upgraded my cell phone with Marshmallow through Xperia Companion.

I hope you have found some permanent solution for this reboot loop problem in your cell.
