Create Recovery Discs on USB Memory Stick

I've just purchased a Vaio netbook and want to create the recovery discs but I do not have cd drive.  I was told in the shop that I could do this using a USB memory stick but the Vaio Recovery Centre won't allow me to.  Anyone any ideas about how you do this?

I think you can only use a USB external DVD Optical drive to create Recovery Media.
