DVD Drive wont work with blank DVD media

Hello. This is my first posting. I have a notebook VGN-FS295VP and since day one the DVD-RW drive has behaved strangely with blank media. Recorded DVD's will play fine, audio and CDR's will work fine but I cannot get a blank DVD to function as recordable media. Windows seems to think that I am inserting blank CD's instead. I desperately need to backup to DVD. Any ideas or suggestions?:smileycry:

What software are you trying to use to back up your files and burn a DVD? I'm sure you are aware Windows does not support DVD burning.
