Graphics Driver Update fails to install!

Hi,

This is slowly driving me insane.

VAIO Update tells me an update is available but the Update fails to install.

''Graphics Driver (Intel) 64bit - 8.15.10.2040

What is this?
This is an updated graphics driver.

What does it fix?
This update improves HDMI compatibility.

Manual installation steps

Exit all running programs.
Download this update and save it to your hard drive.
Double-click EP0000219982.exe to run it.
Wait until the installation is finished, and reboot the VAIO.''

Every time I start my Laptop, the update is waiting for me to shutdown/restart so it can install. It NEVER installs. I've turned off (unchecked) the notification but still it shows up. I managed to download the installer from an online Sony Site but even then it would not install.

Sony Vaio VPCEB1EOE - Philips HDMI HP w2207h

Thanks,

Dan

Thanks Dan - I have reported back but it does not seem that Sony VU know an immediate answer.

My guess is that Windows is installing a more recent driver via windows update.  This prevents the older Sony Customised driver from being installed.

We will see if Sony come up with any suggestions.

Apart from that ................. I'm out of ideas!

I see there is a newer driver version on the Intel Downloads site (Version ending with .2246).

Been a bit too busy lately to concentrate on this ongoing issue. I'm sort of getting used to the permanent error now!!!

I tried some of those ideas but it didn't make a blind bit of difference.

I'll review my efforts again over the next few days (I hope).

At one point I was receiving another error that a downloaded driver was not properly signed to run on my system.

Anyway, for now ... Happy New Year.

Intel Graphics Driver Update [Win7Vista_64_15212] - Not validated for this Computer.
Sony Graphics Driver Update [EP0000219982] - Starts and then quits without doing anything.

UPDATE 01:

If it can't be fixed, is there some way I can remove this VAIO Update notification?
I can see that the automatic update is waiting for me yet again to shut down my computer (laptop).
It's been like this since March 2010 as far as I can make out from the Dates (22/03/2010 - 247884KB).

UPDATE 02:

Graphics Driver (Intel) 64bit - 8.15.10.2040

What is this?
This is an updated graphics driver.

What does it fix?
This update improves HDMI compatibility.

Manual installation steps

Exit all running programs.
Download this update and save it to your hard drive.
Double-click EP0000219982.exe to run it.
Wait until the installation is finished, and reboot the VAIO.

I have this exact file in my C: Update Folder (EP0000219982.exe)

Double Clicking on it Starts the exe, then it quits.

I've also tried 'run as admin'.

This particular update is not ticked in VAIO Update and yet it is on my Shut Down Button.

Unfortunately, Sony support do not appear to have any more suggestions apart from uninstalling through Device Manager and trying to install the new one without rebooting first.  As nobody else has posted from the community we seem to have exhausted most avenues and all I can suggest is that you talk to Vaio Support yourself to discuss the way forward.

Please see above.

I thought this was the SONY Help Forum. sony-europe dot com.

The only thing I believe that's been exhausted at this stage is my patience.

Good day to you.

Although I have sympathy for your frustration, I hope you understand that this is not the official Sony Support portal and I do not work for Sony.

This Vaio Community Discussion forum, although provided by Sony, is a mutual self-help area for Vaio users like you any me.  Along with others, I just come here on a voluntary basis from time to time to try to help other users if I can.

Apparently, no-one else in the Community could help with your problem as it seems a one-off to your Vaio.  Because of this I escalated your problem to Sony and I have relayed their reply to you.  They confirm this is not a general problem so there is no stock solution.

I feel I have done all I can for you as a fellow user and therefore I have suggested you raise a Case with the official Sony Support who may come up with further ideas or may suggest, as it is a one-off, that the only cure will be to reinstall the Operating System.

To contact the official support helpline go to the Support Page for your model and click on 'Get in Touch' here: -

Just as a matter of interest, when you downloaded the latest driver from the Intel Website, did you download the ".EXE" file or the ".ZIP" file?  The .EXE file will not install but in the past the .ZIP file used to install if you extract the files and run the Setup.EXE file included in the .ZIP.

Once more, I am sorry the Vaio Community has not been able to solve your problem.

Good Day to you.

Download the EP0000219011.exe driver update file and save it on your desktop or somewhere convenient (you can allways back it up in case you need it in the future).  Create a restore point and then delete the old graphics driver through device manager (Win 7).  The display will go funny withlarge icons etc, this is because it can no longer find a suitable driver.  Then locate the .exe above and install the driver, depending on your laptop, this may take a moment or two.  The .exe is about 120 mb in size.  You will then be promted to restart your machine, when it will then use the new driver, you can check this in the device manager.  I too had problems using Vaio update as it refused to use the driver after downloading and extracting and windows did say I had the latest driver!!!  However, using the above to manually uninstall the old driver and then install the new one will solve the problem.  Make sure you create a restore point before, just incase problems occur.  You can then check Vaio update following the above and the driver will no longer appear in updates to download list.  This foxed me a bit and was getting annoyed with constand update reminders through the Vaio care programme.  Hope this helps  🙂
