What model netbook do you have?

Is the problem completely random or are you doing the same thing when this happens?

Has it always done this or is it a recent problem?

Any other info would be helpful.

Hi, the model on the front says VPCM13M1E

but on the back it says model  PGC-21313M

The problem seems to be completely random, when I'm online the screen just goes black, no warning. The power button flashes. Sometimes but not normally the screen will come back on to the page I lost it to if I hit some keys or flick the power button, but normlly and lately I have to hold the power button off to reset/restart the computer. It happens when the power mains is plugged in too so not due to battery.

The problem first occured about 2 weeks after having the netbook. Sometimes it cn go days without happening, other times it's several times an hour. I can't see any pattern or trigger. The fan can be heard working too. I have had the netbook about 8 months.

Thank you for getting back to me.

Check CPU & Motherboard temperature after restart.

Yes, I agree - check the CPU temperature with something like PC Wizard: -

http://download.cnet.com/PC-Wizard-2010/3000-2094_4-10793737.html

Also check that you have installed all the Vaio Updates for your model here: -

http://support.vaio.sony.eu/computing/vaio/downloads/updates/index.aspx?m=VPCM13M1E_W&l=en_GB

If that does not identify the problem, you can try to identify the problem in two ways: -

1. Using VAIO Hardware Diagnostics to detect a hardware faults

Make sure the VAIO is shut down completely.

  • Start the VAIO and immediately press the F10 button several times.
  • The VAIO Recovery Center will open.
  • Select VAIO Hardware Diagnostics, and press Start
  • Click Run Test.

Warning:  a full system test may require several hours.

  • 2. Check Event Viewer to see if there are any System or Application errors

    • Click Start, type Event Viewer, and select Applications and Services Logs
    • Check if there are events with classification Error or Critical.  You may find a solution for this event by clicking Help at the bottom right of the window.

If you don't find anything, I would contact Vaio Support as your Vaio is still within warranty.  The symproms you desctibe could be caused by a Power Board problem or just a poor electrical contact somewhere and may need a repair.

    Hi

Thanks for your replies & help.... I've learned loads!

The temperature of  core 1 is 65'  from 54' the 1st time I did it and the Hard Drive was 35' both times.

Would over heating make sense? A few people have told me that but someone else told me I need to update the BIOS??

I'll keep an eye on the temperature and see if there is a pattern.

Thanks so much for your help!
