Maybe we can group a list of suggestions we think could be an improvement for future firmwares or accessories. Someone could be reading on the other side?
My list would be:
- Add a USB cable with the Vaio pocket (avoiding to carry the base with you) This also helps to the Hard Disk functionality.
- More edition options (edit titles, change order of songs in a group, track number order, etc...)
- Mosaic photo search similar to the by album cover searching)
- Delete a song from the Vaio pocket.
- Case that can be placed in the trousers belt, for example.
- Read Avi / mpg (I dunno if this is possible in any way)
- A FM radio... could be external, in the headphones, like some MP3 players have.
- There is no way i can display the lirycs. Does someone can?
- Titles or names for the Photo Folders.
- Possibility to add the album cover to an existing album in the Vaio pocket (not always from the Sonic Stage).
- We have a clock. Why not an alarm? Let's wake up with a Vaio spirit (jesssus....)
- Skin Editor.
D'you have any others?
To be honest, I bought my VP to store and play my music, not to be particularly interesting. To be honest, if it's boring, then it must be easy to use and work faultlessly, which is ideal for me. And did you really pay £330 for it? Ebuyer have been selling them for £230 since november!
Heres a suggestion, how about a cradle that doesn't feel like its made of cardboard and that stays upright!!
Other than that and the fact that the software is buggy as hell I am more than chuffed with my VP, i had a crappy Sony mini-disc player before and the disks drove me insane!
As far as extras on the VP how about a more attractive colour for the actual machine????
I bought my AP1L (40GB) from Ebuyer for £220 , and the day after my purchase I checked out the site again and realised that they increased the price to £230 !
And tankgirltaz, the cradle is perfect, it's portable, and if you what to do with the metal stand it stands perfectly upright. You have to push it in when the metal part is in the right position, then it'll lock there and stays upright happily ever after!
About the software, I agree completely

yeah, my little brother bought a VP from ebuyer when it was £220, then i decided to buy one as well and it was £230 oh well! as for the cradle, i agree with tankgirltaz, whilst the cradle stands up fine on its own, with a few cables in it and a VP on top it really doesn't like to be upright. I don't think sony got their angles/centre of gravity right with that one. all the damage on my VP was caused by the cradle falling over!
um bentate can you check out the manual or the paper manual in the vp case?there are listed instructions for the cradle so you can see how it works[no offense...]
it is quite simple:
the metal bracket goes from upright position to horizontal and then you push it in so it slides inside the cradle allowing it to be perfectly stable!
hope this helps.
i have to admit i found that out quite late myself!
i know how it works, the metal bracket is in place properly! but the VP is heavy, the cradle is light, and this means the centre of gravity is high. this makes it unstable, so it takes very little pressure to knock it over. when it's got 3 cables coming out the back, as mine normally does, it' easy to knock it over. and no, it's not the metal bracket folding up. in a perfect world it wouldn't happen, because the wires wouldn't get tugged, but they do occasionally as there are a lot of wires in a small space most of the time. it's just a poor design, the centre of gravity is too high. sony could have helped it slightly by making the vp angled further backwards, which would make it more likely to topple backwards which would be countered by the bracket, but essentially the base is too high and too light. some way of ballasting it would help, and wouldn't be ifficult to incorporate. thanks for trying to help though!
no cradle at all would have been even better
Pffffffffft, VP don't have even a good photo viewer software, and you are arguing about cradle?
I prefer having thumbnails and be able to rename the photo folders rather than having another cradle( which I personaly think that cradle is perfect).
it all really depends on what you want to do with the VP. if the cradle works fine for you then that's great, i personally think it's very poorly designed, and my VP has a dent or two and a few scratches from when it's fallen over in the cradle. there again, i don't really use the photo aspect of the player, partly because it's a pain to use. does make things hard for sony though, people have so many different visions of how the vaio coul be, whereas people expect other players, such as the ipod, just to be a music device. however, i'm not suggesting that because sony won't please everyone they shouldn't try...
