Hi there,
I just bought a VPCEJ2B1E running Windows 7 and it won't play Blu-ray discs properly. After a few minutes the picture keeps stopping and starting until it freezes all together, sometimes freezing the laptop with it.
Here is what I've done so far:
I checked the drivers - all up-to-date;
I made sure the Corel WinDVD BD was operating with reccomended settings - made no difference;
I checked the software compatability - it said it was incompatible; and,
I ran the VAIO-Care diagnostic tool on the Blu-ray player, which said:
Linear Read Test Failed
Random Read Test Passed
- Faulty Disc Drive.
Is there something I can do or should I take the laptop back to Currys? And if so, should I complain about the hardware or software?
Many thanks!

Hi SophBrad,
I personally would take it back rather than waste hours troubleshooting the problem as it should work ‘out of the box’.
There are no relevant updates available for the software or drive but as the machine is new you may wish to return the notebook to factory settings to be sure that it is not a software problem – my guess is that this will make no difference but maybe worth a try. Be aware that this procedure will wipe all personal data and any third party software you may have installed.
Once returned to factory settings there is no need to specify whether it is a hardware or software problem – just tell them it doesn’t work.

Hi Rich,
I took it back and they offered to exchange it for a cheaper one and a blu-ray player and hdtv. So that's what I did. And so far I'm happy with that.
Thanks everso for your brilliant advice!

Hi Soph,
That would seem to be a fair compromise.
