XL100 connection via component: anyone else having problems?

Hi,

I'm having real problems with standby / away mode etc on my XL100 when connected via component, but if I connect via HDMI instead it seems to be fine.

Anyone else seeing similar problems?

Just thought I'd ask again as I've had no response from Sony. They aren't telling me it's my machine and offering to change it, but they aren't admitting it's a problem either. In fact, tghey are doing a very good job of ignoring me.

Why am I not suprised? I'd keep pushing them, tell them you'll go to trading Standards

Hi lowedb,

I may be having this problem. I've been searching this forum because I cannot get the XL100 to restart after going to standby. I have to completely re-boot. Strange thing is that I have recently changed over to component connect from HDMI as I have a Sky HD box. I will check this out more when the TV is next available and get back to you.

Cheers

Mike,

Thanks for the reply.

Something to point out, because the manual doesn't. Please forgive me if you know this or I seem pedantic, but it took a while to get this out of Sony support and it might help you to describe the problem more specifically:

There are several modes, off, hibernate, standby, and a new one called away mode. It seems it's important to differentiate bewteen standby and away modes.

In standby, the yellow light is on, solid, but no other lights are on. The discs and everything shut off. Away mode however gives a flashing amber lamp, and if you use WLAN this stays on. The HDD stays powered up too.

If you are running MCE, then it seems it will only go into away mode, but if you close MCE and only have XP running and press the standby button, it goes into full standby unless it is busy doing soemthing else.

My problem is very specific( I've spent hours profiling the problem so I know what's going on): If I press the standby button on keyboard or remote control, with MCE running, then it enters away mode, but then locks up. I can tell when it's happened because the antenna symbol on the keyboard goes off if I try to use it to wake the system up. Also, if I leave MCE running but not busy (ie playing music but no visualisation, or waiting to record but just showing the guide) then it will do the same thing of it's own accord. However watching TV or using visualisation stops it happening.

Let me know if this is anything like yours.

Like Mike I have reverted to component from HDMI since arrival of Sky HD box.

On the away/standby issues I have away mode working by ensuring the

"do nothing" options are selected under control panel>power options>advanced Tab.

all boxes ticked on control panel>power options>"away" tab

MCe remote restarts the system OK, keyboard a little iffy

From what i've experienced the XL100 doesn't like component and is a lot more stable under HDMI. I got a lot of "static" screens when I flip between windows and MCE and even between some windows apps. Suspect something going on in the "bespoke" graphics card and screen refresh rates.

Machine has been back to Sony to replace cards but no improvement, at least they extended my warranty to cover the time in the workshop

Anybody tried running the XL100 through a HDMI switch......

Hi iowdbe,

You are not alone. I have just bought my first Sony and wished I hadn't. The standby problem mirrors yours exactly. Have you progressed any further to a solution?

I'm amazed that anyone could sell kit in this state.

Hi Brian,

I have the same problems. numerous people have been on this site with the same complaints so sony must know there are disgruntled customers out there...they don't seem to care. Because I am connected via component I can't view ordinary commercial dvd's, mt tv and sound quality are now sh...te.
Im waiting for the Sony centre to fix the problem or give me a refund.

Excuse my ignorence, what's a HDMI switch?
Is there such a thing as a HDMI to component adaptor?

thanks

Hi Galimh,
I have connected the HMDI to DVI at the screen using the supplied adaptor. Picture great, but no sound (but the PC sound jack seems to work). Apart from the standby problem I get a bluescreen from time to time. That seems to indicate a IRQ problem, but not clear what!

It looks like Sony are keeping their heads down on this one. They must know there is a problem by now.
