XL100 connection via component: anyone else having problems?

Hi,

I'm having real problems with standby / away mode etc on my XL100 when connected via component, but if I connect via HDMI instead it seems to be fine.

Anyone else seeing similar problems?

Damm, I thought you might have a solution. I have a fujitsu plasma but no dvi or hdmi ports. component is my only option (other than s-video). I run my sound through a bose 5 speaker surround sound system. I have now bypassed the vaio by connecting the sound directly to the bose so sound problem solved. still stuck with poor tv because I have the sky box connected to the vaio via scart and the vaio to the screen via component. Sky hd on order but have to wait until mid september for delivery.

HDMI switch lets you feed display from two sources, useful so I can play from either sky hd box or xl100. Most have auto sensing but not keen to shell out any more cash until I'm sure it works with XL100 "quirkeness".

You are going to need HDMI to get best out of SKY HD, component works OK but you are probably going to get caught out later with the same HDCP ( copy protection) issues that existing with playing some DVDs through the XL100.

There are DVI-component converters around but no HDMI-component

Reading over on www.avforums.com about sky hd boxes 'frying' some plasmas over HDMI - you are probably better off running sky hd over component until issues resolved

Thank you tajw,

if there is dvi/component is it therefore pos to connect HDMI>DVI>Component?

That may be a stupid question but.......

brianw - get the lastest sound drivers from the Vaio-Link website, that will resolve your sound problems.

Hi iowdbe,

You are not alone. I have just bought my first Sony and wished I hadn't. The standby problem mirrors yours exactly. Have you progressed any further to a solution?

I'm amazed that anyone could sell kit in this state.

regards

Brianw

Sorry for the delayed response, but I rarely visit the site now. My XL100 went back as Sony were nable or unwilling to resolve the problem.
