Sony WH-1000XM3 Google Assistant not taking commands

Hello,

I recently got the Sony wh1000-xm3. I added Google Assistant support which it has.

if I click once it gives me the time and relevant notifications However when I long press it does not recieve Google commands. It’s as if the microphones are not on for this. If I use the google Assistant app though it takes in commands fine and with the microphones.

I have tried resetting and uninstalling the google assistant app. I also tried factory resetting. I also tried pairing and unpairing both from my phone AND google assistant.  I have an iOS phone, an iPhone X.

any thoughts/suggestions?

Hello @LondonSound,

do you have the Sony Headphones Connect app installed?

Maybe you need to adjsut a setting there to make the Google Assistant functionality work.

Hi there - thanks for your reply.  Yes I do have the headphone app.  This is how I got Google Assistant installed into it in the first place.  i changed the NC button to be used with google assistant.  It prompts you then to the Google Assistant app.

I tried resetting and also factory resetting the headphones.  I also tried to reinstall both google app and sony app.  I also unpaired and paired the headphones from my phone and from google assistant.

any takers??

I have the same issue. Did you ever find a fix?  Thanks

Hi there - unfortunately no, no fix thus far. I get notifications and it can be read out to me but I can’t give commands.  It appears we aren’t the only ones dealing with this as there’s another on the forum with the same issue.

Any my idea from Sony?

Yeah, I've tried everything I can think of....  factory reset, forgot and then reconnected the blue tooth on iphone, deleted and reinstalled both Sony headphone app and Google assistant, played around with various settings within the app. Same thing though... google assistant responds to a short press and informs me about the time and any updates, but won't accept a long press. Impossible to pass through a voice command.

Watching the mike within the GA app, it's as if I've only tapped the button... it triggers for a split second then turns off...  no matter how long I hold the button on the headphones.  Even tried on a different iphone (iphone 6 and iphone 6s).

Really hope it can be fixed... Google Assistant is advertised as a feature on the box!

I agree and it’s a great feature if it works! I’m guessing it’s a software issue as the mics work on the app on the phone.

Sony - Please help!

I am having the same issue. Have upgraded to firmware 4.1.1. Have  reinstalled all the apps including google assistant, headphone. Deleted the bluetooth profiles from all the devices i have connected.  Nothing worked thus far. Also have tried contacting sony on this. the sales rep, just kept forwarding help pages which is asking for reset, hard reset etc. Tried those well before contacting. Not sure what's going on. But this is a very helpful feature and sony has made this a prime advertised on to set them apart from the competition. So i really want them to give a quick fix.

Just to note its an iphone 7plus running ios 12 +.

Thanks for your input. It appears we aren’t the only ones. Appears to be a software rather than hardware issue. It seems Sony doesn’t know the answer and therefore you keep getting random help pages.

It would be helpful if Sony could clarify what is going to be done and if they aim to resolve this issue or give up on some customers because it’s easier to do so.

Hello @LondonSound,

I will forward it to the support and see if they are aware of the issue.
