Dimming issue after PKG6.2858.0082 software update.

Since the PKG6.2858 update I have a dimming issue with my Sony A1. The picture pre update was stunning, however since the update I am experiencing varying levels of brightness which has completely ruined ths set for me. Colours are lacklustre and mostly dim, a factory reset has failed to rectify the problem. It seems that a number of owners on the AVSForums are experiencing similar problems. Only hope that Sony bring out a fix but not holding my breath.

Standard mode as in out of the box nothing changed in the settings?

I said in a previous post the other day that the new TV that came was in Standard mode and I watched a footy game with nothing changed and that it did not dim whilst watching the game.

I have also watched a game in  custom mode with high luminance, contrast set to 90 and brightness at 38 most other settings to off and it did not dim.

If I used the same custom settings on the old TV the screen would dim after 3 or 4 minutes of watching football ( believe me I have tried every setting and had to have it set really low to stop the dimming issue).

I am confused / fed up and annoyed  that having spent the kind of money these things cost we have to go through all of this to get the  TV that was originally advertised.

So we just have to wait / fret and hope Sony sort it.

Hi, did you turn off the light sensor when you got the replacement tv?

Yes I turned the light sensor off when the new TV came.

I also turned it off on the first TV.

Hi,

I guess this issue was defined by Sony to be a feature on the TV and not an issue. It was added by this firmware update to prevent the screen retention or in other words, screen burn.

You can find this announced by Sony in the following link along with the possible ways to reduce its effect on the watching experience: https://bit.ly/2vC1c3t.

Hope this helps,

Hi all,

I received some fresh information today related to the next OTA release date which I'd like to share with you all. The last thing I would want to happen is to promise you a release date (read previous post) which is not 100% accurate. That is why I was in communication today with a contact which has much better information than I do on the progress for the fix and he confirmed to me that they are revising and working on the static content detector algorithm, which will be different than the current and previous ones and which should be planned to be included in a next firmware. Regarding a date in September, he added it’s impossible to confirm any accurate timeline for that new firmware to be released, as long as that is work in progress.

So for all of you that have been in this long wait and asking for an exact release date, as I said already the fix is well under way but as long as they are still working on it, there won't be a release date. It is just a matter of time though. I will for sure keep updating you here as soon as I have any relevant information.

Cheers,

Dutchice
