Despite trying another Fright Night disk, both Blockbuster rental disks refuse to show anything.
It showed couple of screens that looked like the menu background, and then it looked like the player had switched itself off. Sio I gave it ten minutes to no avail.
I had a look at the disk, but it was very clean with no scratches, so we took it back and got another copy. Exactly the same thing !
The 480 is updated to the latest firmware, and just to be sure, I attempted to reload the firm again to be told "already loaded"
The assistant said nobody else had any trouble with "Fright Night", so it must be the player. However, it played a "Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark" bluray perfectly, along with my usual test BD "Avatar - Collector's Edition "

Hi all,
can anyone confirm if the firmware update version M07.R.6020 resolved the playback issue..
Hi,
it could be that the player is trying to access BD Live content, i know from experience it can take a while to load however 10 mins is a bit excessive.
I've tried it with BD Live disabled, and reset the whole 480, but still no joy.
Could well be a problem with that particular movie - every now and then, the studios do something funky with a title meaning the players can't play back.Last disc we had was Source Code I think - these problems only come to light thanks to people watching the movies.
If you could be so kind as to call the service centre and explain the title refuses to play ( having tried multiple discs, updated firmware and factory reset, our guys will then get a copy of the disc and can hopefully reproduce the error and start work on a fix to be included in a later firmware)
Apologies and thanks for flagging the issue.
Hi,
I'd love to do just that very thing, but I've phoned twice and got through to people who I can hardly understand, and I don't think they can really understand me.
The first time I was cut off, and the second time I was put on hold, then asked by the support person if I had a bluray player (this was after telling her, all of the above thread stuff), then cut off again.
Maybe somebody else would like a go at notifying Sony ?
Ah - sorry to hear that. I'll point one of my colleagues to this thread and they can investigate the issue directly hopefully.
Can you just confirm the details of the disc ( region code, releaseing studio, version etc etc) - so we make sure we investigate the exact same disc.
thanks
Thanks,
The disk is "Fright Night" 2011. The new David Tennant, Colin Farrell version. NOT the old one with Roddy McDowall. It seems to be regions A,B, and C. The studio is Touchstone/Dreamworks.
My player is the BDP-S480 UK version.
Thanks again.
