Android TV - Bugs and Issues

Hello all

 

The aim of this thread is to collate all the issues that are currently outstanding and to provide feedback to everyone in this thread. This thread will be a work in progress and updates on various reported issues will be posted back here on the pages below.

 

Only issues that can be confirmed by multiple people will be posted here.

 

NOTE: For anyone experiencing other issues not mentioned here - can you please ensure that you factory reset the TV.   Instructions are located: HERE

 

Update: Due to some TVs that will be on Marshmallow and others that will be on Nougat, this list will be separated into two (ATV1 and ATV2 - see below for model numbers for the difference).  If the fault occurs on both versions of Android, it will be listed under both lists.

[RESOLVED] Casting Not Working

 

Problem:

Updates:

16-10-2015: 

Sony has confirmed this issue and is in contact with Google to resolve this, as it appears its a global issue and not just EU.  This is being addressed with urgency.

 

17-10-2015:

Google has issued an update to its GoogleCast software which has resolved this issue. Please ensure that you have this version: 1.16.45911

 

19-10-2015:

Sony has issued the following statement - however if anyone is still having issues even after updating, please factory reset the tv

[RESOLVED] Pop up message 'Screen Format'

 

Problem:

There are two issues in regards to this problem:

  1. Non 3D - A message intimittently pops up on the TV screen with the Screen Format information.
  2. 3D - A discussion thread has been created HERE

20-10-2015 - Sony Engineers are conducting their investigations on this issue

23-10-2015 - Confirmed that this can be replicated in testing. Passed to Sony Japan engineers to resolve.

22-12-2015 - A new firmware was release for Ireland and EU countries that resolves this issue 

(version PKG3.155).  Unfortunately for UK, thid update will be rolled out at the end of February 2016

07-02-2016 - This issue has now been resolved

[RESOLVED - Individually] Problems updating the firmware

 

Problem:

Cannot update the firmware via the TV or via USB. See discussion thread: HERE

 

Resolution:

Alternative instructions can be provided on a case by case basis.  Please send a Private Message to one of the forum Experts for these instructions (i.e. Quinnicus) or alternatively contact Sony Support.

20-10-2015 - Sony are currently awaiting for an alternative release of this firmware and instructions for those that are having problems. Even though the potential fix above has worked for some, it is more of a mystery because two firmware files actually has no effect.

[RESOLVED] No 5.1 Audio from various apps

 

Problem:

No 5.1 Audio from various apps (i.e. Amazon Video, Google Movies, Plex)

16-10-2015 - Issue has been reported to Sony, awaiting feedback

 

20-10-2015 - Amazon Video should have 5.1 Audio before 24 December as per Support page http://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/article/73499 - No information about other apps as this is up to the other providers in conjuction with their partnership with Sony.

 

15-01-2016 - This is ongoing, but technically it is up to the individual companies to develope their app for the Android TV. 

 

07-11-2016 - With the release of firmware 3.533 (7 November 2016), there is now 5.1 Surround Sound support within the Amazon App.

 

13-12-2016 - AC3 Pass-though works for Google Play Movies and Plex

[RESOLVED] Error message: “Unfortunately, HbbTvLauncher has stopped.”

 

Problem:

An error message pops up on the screen saying: “Unfortunately, HbbTvLauncher has stopped.”

15-01-2016 - This does not appear to be an issue any longer. Presumed resolved via a recent FW release in December 2015.  If anyone has this issue please create a thread/topic on these forums

[RESOLVED] TV Guide Flickers

 

Problem:

TV Guide – When accessing the guide, it flashes on-off-on before you can use it.

20-10-2015 - Sony Engineers are conducting their investigations on this issue - further testing by Sony required as they are unable to replicate this currently

 

15-01-2016 - This appears to have been resolved.  Not heard any complaints for a while on this and have tested both EPGs of default and YouView with success.

 

10-03-2016 - This issue is being re-opened due to a couple of forum members confirming that this is still an issue

 

13-12-2016 - It has been reported that this issue no longer occurs under Marshmallow (Android 6.0)

 

25-02-2017 - With the Marshmallow (Android 6.0) firmware update that was released on the 22nd February, this issue has been resolved.

[RESOLVED] TV SideView - Netherlands

 

Problem:

Since the October update, it is being reported in the Netherlands that TV SideView app is no longer working.

Potential fix:

After you have factory reset the TV, you must delete the TV from the SideView app and pair it back up again

[RESOLVED] Blank screen with sound

 

Problem:

Various people have been reporting that the screen goes blank either upon switching TV on or whilst already in use however audio is still being heard.

22-10-2015 - Additional information has been requested by Sony from the community.

 

10-12-2015 - New firmware released on 10 December to fix this issue (PKG2.645.0052EUA - for UK).  Awaiting for community to confirm if this is fixed.

 

15-01-2016 - This issue has been resolved for EU countries.  Awaiting update for UK, due end of Feb.  Had confirmation from other forum members stating that this is NOT resolved.  In fact Tarzion and Komparko are claiming that this issue is worse FW version 3.169 than 3.155.  Also seen other posts on this forum stating its not fixed

 

07-02-2016 - Issue is ongoing

 

25-02-2017 - There has been no further complaints about this issue for more than 6 months - with the release of the Marshmallow (Android 6.0) update, it is therefore assumed resolved.  This can always be re-opened again at a later date if required.

Lip Sync Issues

 

Problem:

Even after the 13 Oct update, it still appears that some people stil have the audio/video is out of sync (i.e. lip sync)
